Press Release from Holme Farm
Holme Farm will be holding Planting Seeds, Growing Communities, the inaugural launch of its community hub and green space, on Saturday 7 May. Coinciding with Surrey Day and the Soil Association’s Plant and Share month, and hosted by Clifton Nurseries at their Surrey site just outside Weybridge, the Holme Farm team will be running an RHS-inspired seed planting exercise as well as unveiling many aspects of the project at this launch event.
As Surrey Day is about celebrating our region’s heritage and culture, it is an ideal day to highlight the joy in growing your own food, friendships and community. Seed planting will take place from 10am, alongside the chance to meet the Holme Farm team facilitating the conversion of the derelict buildings and to find out in greater depth about the plans and progress. Experts will also be on hand to talk about the biodiversity, wildlife, bee-keeping, sensory garden and arts & crafts aspects of the hub. The event will run until 2pm.
A local choir and student musicians will be performing on the day and a fire engine from Surrey Fire Service will be on display. There will be nature-based craft activities, face-painting, stall holders and an array of food and drink to enjoy.
“This is a chance for us to come together as a group and be able to fully engage with the public,” commented Ronnie Kendall, Committee Chair and Trustee of Holme Farm. “While we wait to be able to get on to the site, we need to take every chance we can to keep the project at the forefront of people’s minds. Surrey Day is all about celebrating our wonderful county and people; this is the essence of Holme Farm.”
“We have been following the Holme Farm project with interest and are delighted to support it by providing a venue for this inaugural launch as well as some trees for the site” said Darren Smith, General Manager at Clifton Nurseries. “The importance of green spaces – both cultivated and left wild – is vital and we are glad to be able to help the community in such a fundamental way.”
